Cernunnos

This still sculpture shows my original character based on the ancient Celtic deity, Cernunnos. I researched the myths surrounding him for months, studying ancient relief carvings and reading the scant references to him in the Irish Book of Invasions, trying to trace his origins and worship practices to accurately represent this ancient god as a character. After writing a short story featuring this character and creating the concept poses pictured in my first process shot, I contacted a group of modern druidic spiritualists (Celtic Reformationists) and worked with them to respectfully and accurately portray the god that many of them still revere. The result was the final sculpture of Cernunnos retreating into his forest, a hand up to hold back the the approaching and encroaching human world (the viewer).
